My name is Maggie Callaghan and I'm a functional medicine nutritionist and founder of Back to Roots Nutrition LLC. I'm based in Denver, CO where I live with my husband, baby girl and Berne-doodle. I have been in the nutrition and weight loss arena for almost a decade now, previously working in medical weight management and as a certified health coach specializing in weight loss. I currently practice a holistic and specialized approach to weight loss with the area of focus on gut & hormone rebalancing. My own personal struggles with gut health over the years has inspired me to delve into the science of functional medicine, ultimately shaping the ethos of the practice.

My philosophy revolves around addressing the root causes of inflammation, oxidate stress and toxic buildup through a functional medicine lens. Achieving balance in the body helps regulate hormones and boost immune system, which leads to improved mood, energy levels, and overall well-being. My passion is driven by the desire to educate you on the understanding of food as medicine and I specialize in helping women lose weight in a healthy and sustainable way. I believe in real personalization and I work to identify the true causes of weight gain and develop a plan of action that fits each person's unique needs.  As the name implies, we take it back to the roots; I work from the “roots up" to repair the digestive system, eradicate nutritional deficiencies, remove barriers and bring all systems back into balance. Whether it's through dietary changes, supplementation recommendations, or stress & sleep management techniques, I'm committed to helping you take control of your health so you can achieve your ideal weight and feel your very best.

Delving into the intricacies of each client's unique body and health goals, I tailor comprehensive plans that encompass dietary recommendations, specialized functional medicine lab analysis, targeted supplementation, and lifestyle modifications. Everything is personalized for YOU.

 

Since each and every one of us is so unique, I do not focus on the one size fits all method. Instead we dive deeper and get to the "root" of any imbalances you may have in the body which could be preventing you from reaching your goals. This process is designed to educate and support you in fully optimizing your gut health, enhancing metabolism, uncovering hidden food sensitivities, balancing hormones and blood sugar, and eliminating toxic overload all while fostering healthy habits into your life.

We create personalized nutrition and lifestyle plans that supports healthy and guided weight loss. We make gradual changes so it doesn't feel as overwhelming and you don't have to drastically change your life all at once and the best part is you can still enjoy some of the foods you love. I am dedicated to guiding my clients through a journey towards safe and sustainable weight management and improved digestive function. Your well-being is my priority.

How It Works

1. Comprehensive health history session: We use this important first 1 hour virtual meeting to fine tune your goals, review medical history, review current symptoms, dietary habits and lifestyle to gather all the relevant information that we need for your unique and personalized lifestyle plan.

 

2. Root Cause Analysis: I delve deep to identify the underlying imbalances or dysfunctions contributing to each person's health and weight loss resistance. This includes investigating factors such as gut health, hormone imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, inflammation or environmental exposures which can be identified through specialized Functional lab testing that I order for you. Some of these tests include in depth gut health panel testing, DUTCH test for hormones, amino acid testing, IgG Food Allergy tests, Toxic Metals testing, DNA diet and much more. **Certain tests may be recommended based on your individual health history and can be added on to any package.

 

3. Review and Implement Personalized Plans: Once we get the lab results back (recommended but not required), we review and then create a custom nutrition & lifestyle plan to bring your body back to balance all while providing you with step by step recommendations, grocery lists, and delicious recipes. Much of the work we do for you is done before and after we meet. I emphasize the use of evidence-based holistic interventions to support the body's natural healing process. This involves my unique gut protocol, nutritional therapies, detox strategies and any other integrative approaches tailored to each person's needs for healthy weight loss and management. 

 

4. Ongoing Support: Ideally we meet for a total of 12 weeks (less or more if needed) but I find 12 weeks is needed to foster the healthy change we expect. You will receive ongoing guidance, education and accountability throughout your time with me during our one on ones.
